Introduction. Occasionally, automobiles we drive will have a manufacturing or design defect that causes an injury. We frequently hear about automobile recalls that generally deal with some defect that can cause injury. The crashes that result from auto defects can be spectacular, and the injury caused can be life-altering. Some of the common defects are discussed below.
Defective Seatbelts. We rely on the seatbelt to stop us in a crash, but what if it is defective and spools out, unlatches or breaks? Serious injury can result.
Broken Seat Backs. A rear-end accident should not generally result in serious injury, but what if your seat back breaks and throws you into the back seat? Broken necks can be the result.
Weak Roofs. Sometimes a vehicle will rollover. This is anticipated by manufacturers. The roof should be strong enough to withstand a rollover. Serious injuries result when people come out of their seatbelts and get thrown around the car during a rollover.
Uncrashworthy. Manufacturers know that many vehicles are going to be involved in accidents, and should design them to protect the occupants during these accidents. Many vehicles, however, are not crashworthy and this causes severe injuries.
Results. We have litigated several cases involving claims of auto defects. We have obtained six and seven figure results, depending on the seriousness of the injury. We are willing and able to try cases in court that do not settle fairly.
What to Do? Do not allow the car to be destroyed or sold for salvage. Call us at your earliest convenience since early investigation of the vehicle is often crucial as to whether or not you have a case.
